Senior Accountant

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager and will be a vital business partner within the General Accounting team. The Senior Accountant’s primary responsibilities will be for all Indirect Tax, Fixed Assets and Prepaids for Dermalogica.

Indirect Tax & Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Timely and accurately maintains monthly, quarterly, and annual tax return filings for sales & use tax, gross receipts and other miscellaneous state and local taxes.
  • Maintains Vertex and Avalara sales tax platform, including taxability and nexus configuration.
  • Responds to tax notices and inquiries from state and local taxing authorities.
  • Maintains licenses and registrations to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Prepares annual property tax returns.
  • Works closely with Finance/Legal/IT teams to build reporting and compliance processes.
  • Assists in documenting, reviewing, and analyzing processes for necessary controls and efficiencies.
  • Provides appropriate sales tax exemption certificates to vendors.
  • Responsible for management of state tax exemption certificates for customers.
  • Assists with monthly account reconciliations and journal entries for sales & use, other taxes, fixed assets and prepaid.
  • Conducts tax research on various issues, business initiatives, and projects.
  • As the Company’s operations evolve and expand, identifies any impact on tax compliance and takes appropriate action as needed.

General Accounting Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain Fixed Assets subledger and record monthly journal entries for Depreciation.
  • Prepare monthly PPE roll forward for submission to Parent Company.
  • Reconcile Fixed Assets balance sheet accounts.
  • Manage and maintain Prepaid schedules and record monthly amortization journal entries.
  • Reconcile Prepaid balance sheet account.
  • Assists in documenting, reviewing, and analyzing processes for necessary controls and efficiencies.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Support all month-end closing activities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Accounting or Finance.
  • Relevant Indirect Tax experience (incl. audit or consulting) highly desired.
  • Experience with working in a fast-close environment.
  • Experience and comfort working with a range of different systems / accounting tools.
  • Proficient in MS Excel.

The expected base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000. The exact base salary is determined by various factors including experience, skills, education, and budget.

This position is also eligible for participation in the company discretionary bonus plan, based on personal performance and company results.
